What is tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide is the first medication that activates both the GLP-1 and GIP receptors. These are hormones your gut releases after eating. Together they help you feel full sooner, reduce cravings and “food noise”, slow how quickly your stomach empties, and improve how your body handles blood sugar. It is FDA-approved for chronic weight management (as Zepbound) and for type 2 diabetes (as Mounjaro).

4. Ongoing support. Regular check-ins to adjust your dose, manage side effects, and keep progress steady. Injections can be done at home, or with a nurse in clinic.

Is tirzepatide right for you?

Tirzepatide may be a fit for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, prediabetes, or sleep apnea. It is not appropriate if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy, or if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2. It also needs extra caution with a history of pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, or an eating disorder. We screen for all of these.

Common side effects

The most common side effects are nausea, diarrhea, constipation, reduced appetite, and indigestion, usually while the dose is increasing. Eating smaller meals, staying hydrated, and increasing the dose slowly help most people. Tell us right away about severe stomach pain, persistent vomiting, or signs of an allergic reaction.
