Who We Help

Vigor Wellness welcomes adults who are ready for a new path forward, especially those who:

  • Have not found relief through traditional therapy or medication (treatment-resistant conditions)
  • Struggle with trauma-related symptoms — including first responders, veterans, healthcare workers, and survivors of assault
  • Identify as LGBTQIA+ or non-binary and are looking for an affirming, safe therapeutic environment

The History of Ketamine Assisted Therapy

Developed in the 1960s, ketamine has primarily been utilized at higher doses as an anesthetic for both children and adults, and, during military conflicts, as a battlefield analgesic. More recently, it has been used as an “off-label” treatment by the FDA for mental health issues that are resistant to conventional therapies, such as medications and psychotherapy.

Ketamine Assisted Therapy is Effective For Severe Depression

Ketamine Assisted Therapy in Johns Creek has shown remarkable effectiveness in rapidly alleviating severe depressive symptoms, including suicidal thoughts. However, individual responses can vary significantly, with some patients requiring fewer doses while others may need ongoing treatment for sustained relief. It’s essential to recognize that Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAP) is not a standalone solution; the active participation of the client in their healing journey, along with lifestyle changes and ongoing therapeutic integration, is vital for the overall success and lasting impact of ketamine therapy in Johns Creek.

How do you administer the medication?

At Vigor Wellness, we offer Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAP) using intramuscular (IM) administration of ketamine. This method allows us to customize your treatment and dosage based on your individual symptoms and how your body metabolizes the medication.

What if I already have a psychiatric provider or therapist?

We’re happy to collaborate with your existing providers. During your KAP treatment, if any medication adjustments are needed, we will work directly with your current psychiatric provider and prescribe as appropriate (with the exception of controlled substances such as benzodiazepines or psychostimulants).

After the initial 1–2 week treatment phase, you will return to your regular psychiatric provider for ongoing care. Many clients benefit from occasional maintenance KAP sessions for continued symptom relief, in which case we will continue to coordinate with your established provider.

We strongly encourage all clients to continue therapy during and after KAP. Integration work is a vital part of this treatment. Ketamine promotes neuroplasticity — helping your brain form new connections — and ongoing therapy helps you make the most of these changes for lasting results. There is no magic bullet; the combination of Ketamine Assisted Therapy and continued personal growth offers the best opportunity for long-term relief.

Can I drive after a KAP session?

No. You must arrange safe transportation to and from the clinic on treatment days. Most clients are ready to leave the office1 to 1.5 hours after their session begins, but you should not drive or operate machinery for the remainder of the day. You can safely resume driving and normal activities the following day.

How does ketamine work?

Ketamine has a unique mechanism of action compared to most traditional psychiatric medications. It primarily targets glutamate receptors, specifically the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors in the brain. Glutamate is an excitatory neurotransmitter involved in learning, memory, mood regulation, anxiety, and sleep.

By modulating these pathways, ketamine can rapidly reset certain brain circuits, often leading to fast improvements in mood, anxiety, and pain perception. It is also used in specialized settings for chronic pain because it affects pain signaling at the receptor level. Research into its full range of benefits and mechanisms continues to grow.

What To Expect

We begin by creating a calm, sacred space. Your provider gently guides a short opening to honor your inner healer and invites support from your higher Self (or however you understand that wisdom). We incorporate the specific intentions you shared for the session. The language used is always respectful and tailored to your personal beliefs and comfort level.

Once the space is opened and intentions are set, you’ll get comfortable on a soft mattress in the center of the room, wrapped in a cozy blanket with an optional eye mask.

Gentle, ambient music — carefully chosen for the ketamine experience — will play in the background. Your provider will then administer the first small intramuscular (IM) dose of ketamine in the arm you prefer.

She will sit quietly beside you, providing a steady, supportive presence. After about 10 minutes, she’ll gently check in to see if you’re ready for the second dose. Once given, the medicine begins to take effect, and your journey unfolds.

A full KAP session lasts approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. During this time, your provider remains right by your side for continuous safety and support. She quietly transcribes anything you say aloud (you’ll receive these notes after the session).

At your request, she can also offer gentle supportive elements such as smudging with palo santo, sage, or sweetgrass, or the soothing sounds of Himalayan singing bowls.

Everyone’s experience is unique. Ketamine is a dissociative medicine, so many people feel a sense of detachment from the body or mind. This often creates space to process difficult emotions or traumatic memories with less overwhelm. The journey is frequently described as pleasant, expansive, or even playful.

As the effects of the ketamine gently fade (usually after 45–60 minutes), you’ll remove your eye mask when you’re ready and begin sharing your experience. Your provider will review the session transcript with you and help you explore any insights, emotions, or realizations that arose.

This integration phase is one of the most important parts of the process. Ketamine promotes neuroplasticity — helping your brain form new connections — making it easier to create lasting positive changes. Working with a trained provider right after the journey helps you translate those insights into real-life growth.

A full KAP session lasts approximately 2.5 hours. We typically recommend a series of three sessions within a two-week period to maximize benefits and maintain the momentum of healing.
